UNOS facilitates every organ transplant performed in the United States, matches donors to recipients and coordinates the organ sharing process. The program collects and manages data about every transplant and brings together medical professionals, transplant recipients and donor families to develop organ transplantation policy. Dr. Potter was elected to a two-year term starting in July 2010 for region four. The country is divided into 11 UNOS regions. Dr. Potter joined ETMC Tyler as the new kidney transplant surgeon and program director in 2008. He came to ETMC after serving as surgical director of kidney transplantation at Sharp Memorial Hospital in San Diego. The ETMC Tyler Kidney Transplant Center has performed 511 kidney transplants since the program began in 1987.

Dr. Steven Potter, ETMC Transplant Program Director and surgeon, has been elected to represent Texas and Oklahoma on the Living Donor Committee for the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) board.
