Pennies from Heaven is a special effort to benefit cancer patients.
You’re invited to make a difference in the lives of cancer patients with COPS CRUSHING CANCER.
In April and May 2011, former law enforcement officers Allan Crosby and Audrey Crosby Spies walked across Texas in memory of their sister, Jacqueline Crosby Mazzola. Jacqueline – a retired Dallas police officer – passed away in October 2010 after a courageous battle with colon cancer. When she knew she did not have long to live, Jacqueline told her family members not to cry because she would be sending them pennies from heaven to help others.
Allan and Audrey Crosby pose with ETMC CEO Elmer G. Ellis at a ceremony in which they were presented a certificate of appreciation for their 857-mile walk.
Her two siblings took those words to heart, embarking on an incredible journey to benefit the ETMC Cancer Institute and raise awareness of cancer issues. From their start on April 1 near Atlanta, Texas, to the finish 42 days later outside El Paso, Allan and Audrey walked in memory of Jacqueline, actually picking up change on the roadways and garnering other donations from friends, family and others that learned of and wanted to be a part of their efforts. It was a journey of 857 miles!
Your gift – whatever amount you would like to give in their honor and Jacqueline’s memory – will benefit our Cancer Institute Remembrance Fund. ETMC, a not-for-profit health system based in Tyler, is a leading provider of cancer care to East Texans. The Remembrance Fund is an ongoing resource that benefits ETMC’s cancer programs, support services, patients and community outreach.
