ETMC named Most Wired for eighth year

ETMC has again gained national recognition for leadership in bringing medical communications and information technology to the people of East Texas. For the eighth year in a row, the ETMC Regional Healthcare System has been named to the 2007 list of the nation's Top 100 Most Wired Hospitals and Health Systems.

Survey measures
The survey and study by Hospitals and Health Networks, the journal of the American Hospital Association, measures the nation's healthcare systems on their use of information technology, in support of patient care, safety and quality, customer service, disaster readiness, business processes and workforce management.

"This is about empowering clinicians with information, and providing tools to support the care management process," said Paula Anthony, ETMC vice president of information technology. "The integration of patient-centered information including voice, data and images across our regional health network supports our commitment to clinical excellence.

Special initiatives
Specific initiatives such as our electronic medical records project and telemedicine and teleradiology systems help to ensure seamless patient services across the care continuum and across our enterprise."

This year 568 surveys were submitted, representing 1,284 hospitals.

Only eleven hospitals, including ETMC, have made the list eight times.

The results are in the July issue of Hospitals & Health Networks.
