The Average Emergency transport costs

Membership in the ETMC EMS program protects you from the out-of-pocket expenses because it prepays any portion of the ambulance charges not covered by insurance or Medicare.
Low annual fee gives you peace of mind.
Your ETMC EMS membership covers you, your spouse and your children under 25 years of age living in your residence when transported by East Texas Medical Center ambulances or Air 1 emergency helicopters. Your annual fee gives you the peace of mind that comes from known that in a time of crisis, you won't have the added worry of another big expense.

$50 Renewal Fee for memberships with health insurance (Renewal members are those with ETMC EMS membership in 2001)
$60 New Member Fee for applicants with health insurance
$68 Fee for new and renewal applicants without health insurance
ETMC EMS membership benefits include:
  • Fully covered emergency transports
  • Medically necessary* non-emergency transports that begin or end at a hospital or nursing home.
  • Air 1 emergency helicopter access within its service area
  • Coverage for all qualified members of your household
  • Coverage of the portion of the bill not reimbursed by insurance for medically necessary transpiration to or from a hospital, including any co-insurance and deductible.
  • Non-emergency transports that are fully covered if insurance or third-party coverage provides benefits for the transport (even if subject to deductible, co-pay or coinsurance)
  • A reduced charge (60% of billed charges) to member if no insurance is available for medically necessary ambulance transports.

Not included are transportation to or from physicians' offices, pharmacies, physical therapy centers, dentists' offices or facilities outside the service area.

ETMC EMS is the only service that requires paramedics to be nationally registered and covers 17 counties of East Texas with 80 ambulances, two helicopters and the state's most comprehensive communications system. Your membership protects you throughout our service area and areas where we have reciprocal agreements, and also covers medically necessary transports to and from hospitals in Dallas/Ft. Worth, Houston, Huntsville, Lufkin, Nacogdoches, Shreveport, Temple and Texarkana.

* "Medically necessary" is defined as specific need of ambulance transportation to or from a healthcare facility (hospital, nursing home) within the ETMC EMS primary service area where use of alternative forms of transportation (wheelchair transport, private car, taxi) would be medically in appropriate given the patient's condition. ETMC EMS reserves the right to require physician certification of medical necessity for all non-emergencies. If abuse is found to exist, ETMC EMS reserves the right to terminate membership.
