ETMC EMS division wins Florida Governor’s award

Paramedics Plus, an organization owned and managed by East Texas Medical Center EMS, has received the 2009 Governor’s Sterling Award, the highest recognition possible for performance excellence awarded by the state of Florida. “This award is significant to the people of East Texas because it demonstrates that the principles of care developed by ETMC EMS are at the highest levels,” said Tony Myers, vice president/COO for ETMC EMS. “East Texans benefit from this same level of care, and we want those we serve to enjoy peace of mind that they’re receiving top-quality emergency medical services.”

The Paramedics Plus division receiving this award is Sunstar Paramedics, which is based in Pinellas County, Florida. With more than 500 employees, Sunstar covers 280 square miles and a population of almost one million people.

Award guidelines
Organizations applying for the Governor’s Sterling Award submit a 50-page application that is scored on leadership, strategic planning, customer and market focus, measurement analysis and knowledge management. Examiners also conduct a site visit, interview employees and analyze every aspect of the organization and its performance. Three other businesses were also honored.
