ETMC Tyler was one of 392 hospitals recognized for increasing organ donation rates. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services presented awards in October to to hospitals for their successes. ETMC Tyler received this recognition for sustaining a donation rate of 75 percent or more from among eligible donors for at least a year. In 2006, more than 31,000 organs were transplanted nationwide with 78 percent of those coming from deceased donors.
