Catching colon cancer early
One important screening prodcedure the digestive disease center is a screening colonoscopy.
Screening is recomended for patients who have:
Symptoms such as blood in the stool
Rectal bleeding
Change in bowel habits or lower abdominal cramping
You have a family history of colon cancer and you are over 40
You are over age 50 (even without symptoms)
The American College of Gastroenterology has concluded that colonoscopy is the preferred and most reliable test for colorectal cancer screening.
