Once, painful incisions were required for many surgeries which can now be performed with a minimally invasive technique known as laparoscopic surgery.
With this technique, a surgeon creates only small punctures in the patient's skin. A video device known as a laparoscope is inserted through one opening, so that the doctor can view his work. Instruments are inserted through the other small openings.
This technique is relatively new, and we are pleased to provide it at ETMC Athens because it is less painful for the patient and allows for more rapid recovery in most cases.
The conditions that can be treated with laparoscopic surgery are rapidly expanding.
