| The Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons has granted its three-year approval with commendation to the cancer program at the East Texas Medical Center Cancer Institute. Established in 1922 by the ACoS, the CoC is a consortium of professional organizations dedicated to reducing the morbidity and mortality of cancer through education, standard-setting, and monitoring the quality of cancer care. |
The ETMC Tyler Wound Healing Center has achieved "A Level One Reaccreditation with Distinction" as a clinical hyperbaric medicine facility. The evaluation focused on the center's use of hyperbaric oxygen chambers in the treatment of wound healing. With over 600 facilities nationwide only 75 are accredited.

The ETMC Athens vascular lab is accredited by the Intersocietal Commission For the Accreditation of Vascular Laboratories. The process begins with a comprehensive self-evaluation by laboratory staff. Completion of the application for accreditation requires information on all aspects of laboratory operation as well as the submission of actual case studies for review. After a laboratory submits the application to the ICAVL, the application undergoes a confidential peer-review by the ICAVL's trained reviewers, including physicians, technologists, and sonographers, before a final decision is made by the Board of Directors.

ETMC Tyler and ETMC Athens have labs that are accredited by the College of American Pathologists. These labs are among more than 6,000 CAP-accredited labs nationwide. Inspectors examine the lab’s records and quality control of procedures for the preceding two years. CAP inspectors also examine the entire staff’s qualifications, the equipment, facilities, safety programs and records and overall management. This stringent inspection program is designed to ensure the highest standard of care for the lab’s patients.
