Stephen Gale, MD, has joined East Texas Medical Center Tyler as
the new medical director of trauma services.
Dr. Gale graduated from the University of Illinois College of
Medicine in Chicago in 1996 and completed his surgical residency at
the University of Arizona College of Medicine in 2003. He
also completed fellowships in trauma surgery and surgical critical
care at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in
Philadelphia.
He has worked as a trauma surgeon and surgical intensivist in
both academic and private practice settings in Houston, Phoenix and
most recently in New Jersey, on the faculty at the Robert Wood
Johnson Medical School as an assistant professor of surgery.
Dr. Gale is board certified by the American Board of Surgery in
both general surgery and in surgical critical care. He is
active in clinical research and in national surgical
societies. He has received several awards and honors
including the 2010 Outstanding Trauma Surgeon Award in Arizona.
Dr. Gale is accompanied by his wife, Katie, a native of
Texarkana, and his children, Nicholas, Jacob and Ellie.
ETMC Tyler's trauma surgeons also include Dr. John Berne, Dr.
Clinton Pace, Dr. Darrell Alley and Dr. LaShonda Williams.
ETMC Tyler is the region's first and only Level 1 Trauma Center
serving East Texas. ETMC Tyler sees close to 50,000 emergency
patient visits annually at its central emergency and trauma center
each year, plus an additional 23,000 patient visits at the South
Broadway emergency center. As the hub of ETMC's regional
trauma network, the facility works with ETMC EMS, ETMC Air 1
emergency helicopters, ETMC's trauma-designated hospitals across
the region and a host of first responders in helping ensure that
East Texans have emergency care when and where it is needed.
