Registration for the
12th annual Henry M. Bell, Jr. Memorial Golf Tournament
is now under way, with proceeds to benefit East Texas Medical
Center's cancer outreach and community education. Hosted by
the ETMC Cancer Institute and the ETMC Foundation, the charity
tournament is set for Monday, Sept. 17, at Willow Brook Country
Club in Tyler.
"ETMC's Bell Tournament is important to our cancer programs and
patients, as it ultimately helps promote early awareness of cancer
issues and provides funding that directly supports our
patient-focused cancer care," said Todd Sigmon, vice president over
the ETMC Cancer Institute. "We appreciate the many people and
organizations who work each year to continue this great tournament
for a great cause."
Sponsors include corporate champion Suddenlink, media sponsor
KLTV-7 and golf ball drop sponsor Metro Aviation, as well as a host
of area organizations. The event will feature a full
afternoon of recreation and socialization, including a shotgun
start, scramble tournament and awards reception. In addition
to Bell Tournament prizes for the winning teams, players also have
the chance to win a 2012 Chevrolet Sonic with a hole-in-one shot on
hole number 15, courtesy of Peltier Chevrolet.
The exciting golf ball drop is set for 12:30 p.m., just before
the tournament start at 1 p.m. The grand prize winner - for
the golf ball that lands in the designated hole or closest to the
hole - will receive $1,000. The first place prize winner will
receive a $500 gift card courtesy of Brookshire's Grocery Co., with
additional prizes awarded to the second through fifth place
winners. A maximum of 1,000 golf ball chances will be sold
for $5 each or six for $25.

The
2011 Bell Tournament raised approximately $25,000 for local cancer
outreach and community education. The tournament also honors the
late Henry M. Bell, Jr., former chairman of the board of the ETMC
Foundation and long-term supporter of ETMC.
