Henderson, Texas – Construction and renovation of the emergency department at ETMC Henderson is complete.
Emergency department staff opened five renovated exam rooms today. The ETMC Henderson emergency department now boasts 12 exam rooms, including two major treatment rooms.
“The addition of five exam rooms should result in patients seeing physicians more quickly, translating to shorter wait and treatment times,” said John Montalto, director of the emergency department at ETMC Henderson.
The exam rooms were part of the existing ETMC Henderson facility and were renovated to match seven newly constructed rooms, which were opened in February. They include some glass walls that allow emergency department staff to more easily monitor patients and curtains that can be drawn for privacy, Montalto said.
“We are excited to have completed our emergency department and to have delivered on ETMC’s promise to the people of Rusk County,” said Mark Leitner, ETMC Henderson administrator. “We anxiously anticipate the completion of our new lobby and admissions area later this year. We are pleased that ETMC Henderson can grow and expand to meet the needs of our community.”
In March, ambulances began accessing the emergency department through a new entrance on the west side of the building. When construction began last June, ambulances and others were directed to access the emergency department through the main entrance of the hospital.

Patients not transported by ambulance, but seeking care in the emergency department, will continue to use the main hospital entrance on Wilson Street. Guests are reminded that the covered drive at the main entrance may be used to drop off or pick up patients, but parking in the drive is prohibited.
The emergency department entrance will be relocated to the west side of the building when construction is complete on the new hospital entrance and lobby area, which is expected by the end of the year.
Admissions and registration
The new lobby area will house admissions and registration, as well as a larger general hospital waiting area. A separate emergency department waiting area with 24-hour access and a walk-in entry with a covered drive will open at that time as well.
